"The Life And Times Of A Teenage Rock God" is a single off of Zombie's latest album,The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser (hell of a mouthful, that title), released at the end of April. The video for this single was released a few weeks ago (and is viewable for a time in the Music Video section of TLR), bringing about this review, the video is balls to the wall Rob Zombie through and through; highly cinematic and psychedelic featuring a Satan that is part Paul Lynde. Back to the music itself, the song in and of itself is also classic Rob Zombie, heavy but infectious and downright catchy. Much like "Living Dead Girl" (you all have it stuck in your heads again now that I wrote the name, don't you?), it's that good. Lyrical narrative is about the ego trip too much fame too early in life can lead to. So often in Zombie's songs do we find cautionary tales woven into the headbanging rock and lyrical parodies of society, this song is no different; not that it is preachy or saccharine, far from it in fact.
As for songwriting and musicianship... what can be said that hasn't been a thousand times already? There's a reason Rob Zombie endures, Zombie and his band have continually been and remain some of the best musicians out there in the public eye. I'm picking up the whole album for my personal library of music this week, I recommend you do the same if you're a Rob Zombie fan and haven't yet.
