Prog rock with melodic overtones from UK based Reason is some of the best progressive rock/metal that's has come in the door at TLR in the last year or so. It is without a doubt prog, but not over the top and focusing mostly on guitar play; say like Dragonforce does sometimes (though I admit I do like some of their better songs). Reason is well rounded prog metal and their compositions showcase that very well, each instrument is given attention and has a fully realized place in each song, where a lot of other prog metal acts focus on guitar virtuosity above anything else and ending up more like shred metal than what they say is their aim. The vocals are well done in Reason's song as well, again they are fully realized and are a perfect blend of 80s heavy metal and modern rock. Powerful but not screaming or death grunts, Paul Maces voice is an excellent counterpoint to the instruments' intensity without overtaking them or being overwhelmed by the sound either.
